Dr. Daisy Y. Morales-Campos, PhD

Associate Professor UTHealth Houston, School of Public Health, San Antonio Regional Campus

Dr. Morales’ research interests include public health education, cancer prevention, and maintenance of behavior change among Latinos/as. She is interested in health, culture and reproduction issues that immigrant women from Latin America and their children encounter in the U.S. She has extensive experience in the design and implementation of community-based participatory research, culturally appropriate research methods and protocols, cancer screening studies, and interventions for Latinos/as utilizing a promotora model. 

Favorite Self Care Strategy: Working out, alone time by myself

Why do you serve on the board of The Storytellers Project?: I am inspired by the vision of the project and believe I am in a position to help spread the word about the project, get it evaluated, and be able to disseminate it.

John Quincy Adams Jr.

John is a Denver Native and a graduate of East High School and the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He has served in various roles within Denver Schools and ended his 34-year career as Union President representing school employees and the community during the last 10 years. He has also served as the Co-Lead negotiator with the Teachers Union Lead Negotiator in a successful negotiation. He has worked closely with and against DPS lead counsel on several arbitration and other employee matters. His experience consists of partnerships with affordable housing agencies, sober living housing, and as a long-time advocate for the people. He does volunteer work for Stable Strides Equestrian and The Denver Handgun Intervention Program (HIPP). He also helped create and served as the Director of Diversion for the Simms Fayola Foundation establishing some important partnerships with various agencies.

Favorite Self Care Strategy: Laughter, listening to the sound of silence, and my bee’s calm hums.

Vanessa Valencia

TNTP Consulting Partner

Vanessa has a Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science with a minor in elementary education and a Master's degree in Reading from Regis University. She was an elementary and middle school teacher, a reading interventionist, a teacher coach and served as an assistant principal and principal for 10 years in Aurora Public Schools. Vanessa now serves as a consulting partner for a national nonprofit that believes all students should have access to a strong academic foundation and social and economic mobility. Vanessa had to break the cycle of violence she grew up in and learn and unlearn a number of things to find her purpose and work towards self-actualization and support others in doing the same. 

Favorite Self Care Strategy: Meditation, exercise and journaling.

Why do you serve on the board of The Storytellers Project? I serve on the Storyteller's Project Board to support a non-profit that strives to strengthen families and members of our community.

Simone Renee

Executive Director Metro DEEP

Simone is a graduate of Johnson & Wales Denver, a mother of three, and an entrepreneur with a passion for community engagement and project management. Simone is committed to building and maintaining relationships and encouraging both internal and external growth. Partnering with many organizations, Simone works with professionals to provide project management support and aids in guiding entrepreneurs to the resources necessary to be successful in launching, developing, growing, and or scaling their businesses. Simone has extensive experience in non profit development and organizational operations, complimented by lived experiences of systemic barriers and economic disparities specifically impacting marginalized communities.

Favorite Self Care Strategy: I love to be alone in a quiet space where I can hear myself think or just shut my brain off and take a nap. Other strategies that I love are music and food!

Why do you serve on the board of The Storytellers Project? I serve on the board of the Storytellers Project because I believe meaningful change must be multigenerational. By sharing and preserving diverse stories, we bridge generational gaps, foster understanding, and create a collective vision for a better future. As a community, we must not only envision change but actively work toward it, ensuring that our actions today lay the foundation for a more inclusive, informed, and empowered tomorrow.

Become a Board Member

The Storytellers Project is a Values driven organization that strives to live our values daily in all aspects of how we serve our community. We will count on you as board members to hold us accountable to living those values in all our decision-making and we ask that you live those values as a board member.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership

  1. Advise the Executive Director and help to guide the strategic plan of the organization in alignment with our mission, vision, and values.

Governance and Oversight

  1. Developing and approving The Storytellers Project policies and procedures

  2. Reviewing and approving annual budget, financial reports, and meeting all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.

  3. Reading and becoming familiar with our bylaws.

  4. Developing and contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the Executive Director

Fundraising/Networking

  1. Champion our work and share it with others.

  2. Connect The Storytellers Project with people in your network, potential donors, funders, and partners.

  3. Invite others to get involved and engaged.

  4. Invest in us with an annual gift of $365 or more.

  5. Every single Board Member/Champion should make an investment in time, energy, and money that is commensurate with their relationship, capacity, and involvement with our organization.

Evaluation

  1. Familiarizing yourself with our programs and the evaluation systems we use to collect data and evaluate our programs.

  2. Guide us in developing stronger evaluation systems that effectively demonstrate our impact.

  3. Be a though partner in achieving our goals and objectives and providing feedback on programs and curriculum.
