Adult Programs

Peer and Family Support

The Peer and Family Support Group is a peer-led healing circle (support group) for BCBB participants that provides ongoing support on their healing journey as they work to stay out of the system and reconnect with their families and community.

Each group is facilitated by a Breaking Chains Building Bonds peer leader. Topics and workshops can include discipline, dealing with grief, financial literacy, parenting teens, and other topics that participants have identified they need or are interested in.

Peer Leadership

Peer Leadership Guiding Values

  • Commitment to Healing and Personal Growth

  • Accountability

  • Integrity

  • Restorative/Transformative Justice

  • Vulnerability

Our Breaking Chains Building Bonds Peer Leader program empowers adult graduates of the 8 week Breaking Chains Building Bonds intensive to give back to their community. Peer Leaders draw upon their incarceration and reentry experience, as well as what they have learned in the BCBB program to  advocate for and support their peers.

Peer leaders enter the leadership program through initial participation/graduation of our 8-week intensive Breaking Chain Building Bonds program and either volunteer or are recommended for a peer leadership role. The Peer Leader program was created after the first BCBB cohort as suggested by participants of the first graduating class.

Peer leaders commit themselves to their healing and personal growth and practice integrity and accountability. Peer Leaders recruit new participants, co-facilitate and host BCBB events, provide support and resources for their peers, and eventually earn their Peer Recovery Coach credentials.
